US President Donald Trump has reiterated that the ceasefire between Israel and Iran is officially in effect, urging both sides to honor the agreement even as reports emerged of continued attacks.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote: “The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it! — Donald J. Trump, President of the United States.”
The plea comes shortly after Trump had earlier declared a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, brokered with assistance from Qatar. The ceasefire plan involved Iran initiating a halt in hostilities, followed by Israel 12 hours later, effectively ending what Trump called the “12-Day War” within a 24-hour window.
According to Reuters, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani played a crucial role in securing Tehran’s approval of the US-brokered ceasefire after a direct request from President Trump during a phone conversation with Qatar’s Emir.
Despite these efforts, the Times of Israel reported that Iran fired additional missiles into Israel shortly after the ceasefire announcement, killing four people in Beersheba and injuring several others in a strike on a residential building in the southern city.
The latest surge in violence follows a dangerous spiral of escalation that began on June 13, when Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated with a sweeping missile and drone assault under Operation True Promise 3, aimed at crippling key Israeli infrastructure.
Further intensifying the conflict, the United States launched precision strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites under Operation Midnight Hammer on Sunday. In retaliation, Iran fired missiles at US bases in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American military installation in the region.
As the region remains on edge, President Trump’s repeated appeals signal growing international pressure for both nations to honor the ceasefire and de-escalate, amid fears of further destabilization in the Middle East.
